AML training for board of directors in Kenya
Boards are accountable for their institution's AML/CFT/CPF programme and must be trained on it. This course shows directors what the law and regulators expect, how to read the MLRO's reports and which questions to ask. The certificate of completion states the hours for the annual report of directors' training.
Based in Nairobi, we work with organisations in Kenya, across East Africa and worldwide.

Recent developments and emerging issues
The course is updated as rules change. These are the developments it currently covers. Last reviewed: October 2026.
Grey list exit targeted for April 2027
Kenya has been grey-listed since February 2024. The EU added Kenya to its high-risk list in June 2025, which affects correspondent banking and investor due diligence.
FATF's remaining asks
Risk-based supervision, the quality of suspicious transaction reports, beneficial ownership, financial intelligence, prosecutions, targeted financial sanctions and oversight of non-profit organisations. Boards should ask management for evidence on each item that applies.
Wider supervision and higher fines
The AML/CFT Laws (Amendment) Act 2025 widened AML supervision. Sector fines go up to KES 1m for individuals and KES 5m for companies.
Senior-management approval for higher-risk relationships
Under CBK guidance, foreign-PEP and other higher-risk relationships need senior-management approval, and those approving them should be trained.
Board-approved AML policy
The CBK's draft Risk Management Guidelines would have the board approve the AML/CFT/CPF policy as part of risk appetite.
Proliferation financing regulations
The FRC said in October 2026 that proliferation financing regulations will be tabled shortly.
